Shopping

You can find (almost !) everything in Beijing. And you will always meet someone who'll tell you "oh, go there, it's really cool".

But...

Beijing is growing and changing very fast. And just like for a link on the web, double check the information before you hit the road. Two months ago, everybody would have told you "you want to buy clothes ? Go to Sanlitun." But Sanlitun has been "moved" during the winter vacation. Old businesses desapear, while new ones grow like mushrooms !
One sure thing is the shopping pedestrian street of "Wang Fu Jing" in the center of Beijing (very close to Tian An Men). Bookstores (Foreign languages books available), clothes, etc.... they're all there !

As for food, The Lido market (north ouest of Beijing, not far from the school) and the Lufthansa Center have all the major products you may need if you're allergic to Chinese cooking. Let's not forget the "Jenn Lou's" shops, (small but full of nice stuff). There are a few of them, generally located in the "International" areas.
